Lighting services, installations, repairs Richmond Hill ON

Picture
The most common lighting requests from home and business owners are pot light installation and chandelier installation services in Richmond Hill.  Let’s take a look at each one.

Potlights:

Also known as recessed lighting, this is a ubiquitous light fixture in many modern homes and offices, with good reason.  They have many benefits over traditional flush mount light fixtures:

  • they are versatile in that they can appear in the majority of rooms to provide the necessary ambient light
  • they usually use energy-saving and long-lasting LED light bulbs
  • you can decide on the tone depending on the mood you want to set for the room (bright white light vs. a softer and warm off-white light)
  • are unassuming and blend well into the ceiling so other features in the room can be showcased

How do you determine pot light spacing?

A good rule of thumb for LED pot light installation is to divide the ceiling height by 2 and you’ll get the distance in feet between pot lights.  For example, if you have an 8 foot ceiling, then space the pot lights roughly 4 feet apart. This should provide more than sufficient ambient lighting for the room.  If you want variation in a room’s mood, consider adding a dimmer switch to vary the light intensity. Good places to install a dimmer switch include the bedroom, bathroom, living room, dining room, basement or home theatre.

How much does it cost to install pot lights?

This is a complicated one to answer, because there are so many variables aside from the cost of the pot light fixture, which can range from $80 to $150 per light, give or take a few dollars, and the labour itself from a licensed electrician (without additional factors) may cost a couple hundred dollars.  But you need to ask:

  • Does the electrician pot light installer need to pull a permit from ESA to install the pot lights?  This is certainly the case if no existing electrical hardware exists and it is considered an addition as opposed to a replacement.  An electrical inspection is needed for an addition and adds to the cost.
  • Is there anything physically in the way of a simple install?  For example, if joists or pipes need to be removed to accommodate the pot lights, this also adds to the cost.

Chandeliers:

You’ve found a beautiful chandelier you want to add to your front foyer, dining room, kitchen or bedroom.  The next thing that pops into most people’s minds is the chandelier installation cost.

How much does it cost to have an electrician install a chandelier?

Aside from the chandelier fixture itself, here are some factors that affect the cost of chandelier installation:

  • On the low end of cost, around $300, give or take a hundred dollars, should cover simple installs on low ceilings and existing wiring in place
  • On the high end of cost, where a lift is required and there is no existing wiring in place, you may be looking at several thousand dollars.

As broad as that range is, contact us for an assessment and we’ll provide you with a more accurate estimate.  No matter what your lighting installation service needs are, whether you need a ceiling fan install, pot lights installation, chandelier addition, landscape lighting or home theatre illumination, our capable and detail-oriented licensed electricians will take care of them for you, and you’ll have your home illuminated beautifully in no time.
